de Toledo’s Academic Excellence Stands Alone (Part 1)

“Education is the kindling of a flame, not the filling of a vessel.”
― Socrates

At de Toledo, academic excellence is woven into the school’s ethos. Every student who walks through our school’s doors has a passion to curate, a skill set to hone, and an academic journey to map out. Our job is to steward our students along their path with thoughtfulness, compassion, and generosity. Through personalized attention and individual support, we empower each student to expand their minds and achieve excellence.

Each student has limitless potential
de Toledo’s expert teachers, deans, counselors, and advisors provide close, one-on-one mentorship and guidance. Our students who begin their high school experience taking “grade-level” classes routinely move up to honors and AP classes over time.

“When I started at de Toledo in the 9th grade, I was too afraid to even read a text aloud in front of my classmates. Now, I’m reading scenes from Othello by myself in front of the whole class. That transformation would never have happened unless my teachers took a personal interest in my growth and development.” – senior Nitzan W. (’24)

At the same time, a de Toledo education teaches students how to ask questions, think critically, and envision unexplored possibilities.

“I love how the teachers at de Toledo genuinely help you maximize your academic potential.  When I first started here, I was struggling with math and my teacher took extra time out of her schedule to work with me one-on-one. Now, math is my favorite class and I’m actually taking both AP Calculus and AP Statistics.” – senior Jake S. (’24)

Elite specialized programs
de Toledo offers unique specialized academic tracks and facilities tailored to students’ individual interests. These include dedicated pre-med, robotics, engineering, computer science, and speech and debate programs. In fact, 85% of the students at de Toledo have individualized academic paths tailored just to them. This customization, with the support and active engagement of teachers and deans, encourages each student to chart their own educational journey.

“I was really looking for one-on-one mentorship as part of narrowing down my scientific and academic interests. I’m so happy I made that decision because the lab work in de Toledo’s Medical Science Academy has increased my exposure to Biomedical Engineering, which is what I’m going to pursue in college.” – junior Aaron M. (’25)

The Medical Science Academy is a three-year specialized program with college preparatory classes, lab work, surgery internships, and international medical missions. Students interested in careers in medicine or nursing, like Aaron M., gain vital knowledge and skills through hands-on experience.

Uncovering Students Passions
Teenage years are for discovery. de Toledo’s commitment to academic excellence, with over 70 electives and extracurriculars, empowers students to discover their passions and realize what’s possible into college and beyond.

“de Toledo does an awesome job of encouraging students to try as many extracurriculars as possible so that we can discover our passions. I personally loved participating in Mock Trial, Speech and Debate, as well as the Philosophy Club.” – senior Amit S. (’24)
