On this day, 70 years ago, Auschwitz Concentration Camp was liberated. Italy, along with other countries, recognized the significance of this day well before the United Nations did in 2005.
Today, 100 NCJHS students learned about the vitality of Italian Jewry, significant and important Italians such as Primo Levi, Gino Bartali, and Slovenian Poet and Anti-Holocoast Revisionist Champion, Boris Pahor. We were honored to have representatives from the Italian Consulate with us for our memorial service.
Each student was assigned a name of one of the Italian victims of the Shoah and was asked to share it with someone who was not present at the lesson and service.
We asked the questions: What Makes People Forget? Why is there a rise in European Anti-Semitism today?
What do you think?
