killing 12 people in a methodical hail of gunfire, fleeing by car as they battled on the street with the police and setting off a wide manhunt for the killers who remained free.

President Obama:
“For us to see the kind of cowardly, evil attacks that took place today I think reinforces once again why it’s so important to stand in solidarity with them, just as they stand in solidarity with us.” Obama said that the attack on journalists “underscores the degree to which these terrorists fear freedom — of speech and freedom of the press,” he said, adding that freedom of expression is something that “can’t be silenced because of the senseless violence of the few.”

Let us take a moment of silence for the cartoonists and journalists and others who were killed this morning in an act of terror.

Avinu She B’Shamami. To the One Who Helps Us to Bring
Light where there is darkness. Help us to reach out in solidarity to the people of Paris.
Do not let fear replace the deep values of Liberty, Peace and Freedom of Expression.
Help us to honor the freedoms that Terrorist are so threatened by.
Let there be healing where there is brokenness, and Peace to all of the earth’s inhabitants.

B’A’Hashem,

And I will give peace in the land, …and none shall make you afraid…neither shall the sword go through your land. )Lev. 26:6)

Continually Blessing One: We know that there is a greater threat to freedom than acts of terror. Fear and a diminution of Hope. Even on such a day, help us not be afraid and help us to hold on to our faith that there will be a day when all people will understand that every person on the planet has been created B’Tzelem Elohim, in the image of God. Then we will all, everyone of us, know Shalom.
