October 17, 2013: Dr. Bruce Powell, Head of School at the New Jewish Community High School has been recognized for his skills, proficiency and dedication in Jewish education by RAVSAK, the Jewish Community Day School Network, and joins their new Head of School Professional Excellence Project (PEP!), to serve as a coach for new day school Heads of School.
Underwritten through generous funding of The AVI CHAI Foundation, the Ben and Esther Rosenbloom Foundation and an anonymous funder, the PEP! project matches highly successful and experienced Jewish day school leaders (called Deans) with newly minted, wonderfully talented and highly motivated Jewish day school heads (called Fellows) for a year of one-on-one coaching and mentoring. Deans will begin work with Fellows at the start of the 2013-2014 school year.
The PEP! project has the dual outcomes of preserving for the field the accumulated wisdom of some of the greatest Jewish educational leaders and of empowering, strengthening, and enriching the next generation of outstanding leaders. To enhance their ability to effectively coach new day school Heads of School, Dr. Powell participated in two intense training seminars to learn the coaching skills to parallel their substantive knowledge of the role and expectations of Heads of School.
“The ability to partner with other dedicated leaders will help contribute to a goal that I share with RAVSAK: to strengthen the core of Jewish Day Schools nationwide. I am honoured and thrilled for the opportunity to be a part of this innovative and exciting project,” said Dr. Bruce Powell.
“The Head of School Professional Excellence Project aims to transform the field by empowering promising new stars to grow the skills, knowledge and dispositions to become the next generation of long-term, successful day school leaders. This intensive training will give our Deans the tools to share their expertise and experience with a new group of leaders who share their passion for, and commitment to, Jewish education,” said Marc Kramer, President of RAVSAK.
