Mazel Tov to David Weingarten, new NCJHS graduate for being one of the five statewide winners of the prestigious Diller Teen Tikkun Olam award granted by the Helen Diller Family Foundation.  David received the award for aiding the growth of the Abayudaya Jewish community in Uganda by connecting the Los Angeles Jewish community with the Ugandan Jewish community.  He arranged for the exchange of U.S. students to Uganda and Ugandan Jewish youth to attend a regional USY convention here.

The Foundation received over 178 nominations this year.  David joins fellow NCJHS alum Shira Shane (Class of 2006, Stanford 2010) who won this award its first year for her work in aiding genocide victims.  Having two NCJHS winners in four years is a prodigious achievement!

More information is forthcoming on the Diller site, www.sfjcf.org/diller/teenawards. See also, the recent article about David’s work in TRIBE magazine.
